Waka Ama/Camp Reflection

 

What did we do at camp? Went on the waka ama Went on a historical walk around Karitane Watched a New Zealand movie called ‘whale rider’ Played with Pokemon cards Ate pizza and chips Slept in our school hall in Oamaru

 

What was the most challenging part of camp? Sleeping in the hall because every five minutes someone would get up and go to the bathroom and the light from the bathroom would shine into my face.

 

To make camp better, I think I would change or add? Have a better stretcher A taller wall between the boys and girls More food for dinner

 

How do I feel about camp now that I have been on this camp? Would you like to go to another school camp? Yes because I liked mostly everything on this trip [except the sleeping] I felt a little safer because the hall doors were locked and you could go out but not come in

 

What was the best activity? Describe why you thought it was the best. The waka ama was my personal favourite because we were allowed to paddle  the waka and also plant flax [harakeke]

 

Describe one thing that you learnt while on camp How to paddle a waka That waka’s are fun That some Maori myths are there to remember what happened in that place

SALT   BROWN   MELTED   GIRAFFE   GREASY

So in the weekend I walked to the zoo I loved it there I got to see the salt water Crocodiles and the brown bears It was so much fun!.Once we were done with the animals we went to the cafe in the middle of the zoo I looked out the window we could see the two Giraffes I loved their brown spots I ordered the Giraffe cookies and when the waiter came over was also carrying some Greasy chips and the grease got onto the Giraffe cookies and melted them  now I hate them.

I had never heard about the blogging challenge until this year now days I just accept it as part of my school life My favourite week was 6:making music I made a cool song and really enjoyed it.But the most challenging was week 9 which was hard because A: I haven’t finished B:I find it really hard to make a quality post and add in some humour in.I recommend  week 6,week 9 and week 3 I think Edublogs has to improve the time limit on the weeks from 1 to maybe to 2 weeks

9.what are the differences from OIS and your old school?

Lachlan-OIS is a lot bigger and has many different things than my old school

10.Do you like your teacher at OIS?Why?

Lachlan-Yes because she’s kind and patient.

here’s a story about My Favourite Trip

 

GRAND CANYON ADVENTURE

 

On thy morning of 15th of May 2016 Mum,Dad,Jasper and me Levi trekked, well we sort of rode in a LuxBus America [fancy American bus] to the biggest canyon It in the world.why are you going to the biggest canyon in the world ye may ask? Because It was part of our American holiday, yes the Grand Canyon it was scary since I almost fell to my death. Interested? Well, read on.

 

I woke up in cold sweat at 4:23 am to find my Dad looming over me ‘time to get up!’he said quietly because Jasper was sleeping [I think] then I heard my Mum sadly humming a tune it gone like ‘goodbye Las Vegas,’ I know we are in Las Vegas and going to the Grand Canyon at 5:00 am so we woke Jasper up and I got dressed in my blue,aqua and mossy green shirt and orange shorts and slapped on my grey trainers and my favourite cap I got from Ensenada, Mexico three days earlier .

 

We started packing Jasper’s essentials [diapers, toys, pacifier and something else I can’t remember] I packed my camera and some toys it was 4:37 am and we had just had to pack the goods bag which contains a blanket, our raincoats, money and sunscreen finally we were all packed.We drove to what looks to be an aircraft hanger ‘oh damn,I thought ‘are we going in an aircraft, not a LuxBus?’ but then I saw something else a row of 5 LuxBuses in a straight line the ones on the end looked in need of repair in the middle of the buses was a brand new LuxBus,the hot sun’s rays reflecting off the LuxBus it was beautiful. Then I saw something a sign in front of the brand new LuxBus saying ‘departure for Grand Canyon at 5:00 am’ it was 4:55 am so we hopped on and our journey to the Grand Canyon began.

 

Halfway through the trip somebody [cough, cough bus driver cough, cough] turn the heater on, oh yeah I forgot to point that my family was the only English people on the bus

The rest were Japanese anyway,and not being mean Japanese must have a sweat problem because in a few minutes of the heater turning on the Japanese were becoming sweaty potatoes inside of an oven[the LuxBus] and we were in the middle of it all this bus was a death trap with a toilet  wait a toilet?!’ I thought I was saved I bolted to the toilet to escape the sweaty Japanese I opened the toilet door and then locked it behind me and stayed there  for the rest of the trip not .I got back to my seat and waited for the trip to be over.Finally, it happened we arrived.

 

We had got to the Grand Canyon and I ran out of the LuxBus and smelled the fresh air and then looked at the Canyon itself and then I saw the most beautiful thing [except a supermodel] the Canyon itself and the Colorado river It was like a blue line 1800 metres down it was stunning. Plants bloomed around the edge of the Canyon I immediately started taking photos then my Mum said ‘time to go to the best part of this trip,’ I thought ‘more pictures! Yay,’.We took a walk to ‘the best part’ then I saw it a big deck made out of glass and steel framing we walked on to it I looked down then I realised I had made the worst mistake of my 8 yr old life the floor was transparent I was afraid of heights back then so I thought we were going to die so I leapt back onto solid ground then a few minutes later I saw a hole so I leap onto the transparent deck and started taking photos with my camera then something worse happened a staff member shoved me in the shoulder not very hard but hard enough to make my tummy lean on the steel bar and my feet come off the ground I thought ‘oh damn, I’m screwed give the staff no tip!’ then suddenly everything turn to normal my feet were on the ground/deck I then noticed the hole from before and took a snapshot of it.then we went to the gift shop I bought a book of Grand Canyon ghosts and I saw an old stage coach off limits it look so awesome with it’s spoked wooden wheels and red cushioned inside and gold [painted] doors and a velvet seat in the front so the driver could control the Horse’s and in the back was a luggage area then we left the gift shop and took the LuxBus home.

 

We got to the hotel and we found a towel animal on my bed and Mum and Dad’s bed on my bed I got a towel Snake with a Crunchie [honeycomb with chocolate] bar and Mum and Dad got a towel Gorilla

With a Picnic bar then I went to the bathroom to see our spa bath to see if it was dirty but no it wasn’t which is good I went to the main attraction of the room the view you could see the MGM Grand hotel which is the 2nd largest hotel in the world and the Bellagio which is 5 star hotel and the Wynn which is one of most fanciest hotels in the USA overall beautiful view.

 

My day was awesome I saw the biggest Canyon in the world and now I know some facts about the Canyon [like it’s 434 kilometres long]

I so would like to go again.

Facts:

6.Goats don’t like rain and try to seek shelter when it rains

7.Goats body temperature is 101-107 Fahrenheit  [40.55555 Celsius]

8.Goats are quite agile and can sometimes leap 5 feet [1.5 metres]

9.A large group of Goats is called a herd

10.Goat pupils are rectangular

so we had our school Triathlon here’s a story I made about this event I competed in.

 

Triathlon

 

On a Wednesday long ago OIS held a school event called Triathlon and you could come in a trio or solo.              

 

In trios you can do 1 part of the triathlon and your 2 other teammates can ether bike or swim [i:e you swim friend does bike and other friend does running] you had to [individually or trio]swim 200m [8 lengths of pool] bike 5 laps of field and run 3 laps.OIS students competed in this mostly for fun and to keep fit they always hold the triathlon at OIS.I shall tell ye my story of woe.

 

So I decided to do a trio with 2 of my friends Lachlan Wilkinson and Solomon Osbourne so the plan was I swim, Lachlan biking and Solomon running but on thy day Lachlan had a unknown sickness [don’t ask me I ain’t no creep] so plan gone like this  I swim, Lachlan biking and Solomon running but no Lachlan So I completely unready had to bike and swim ‘uhhhhhhhh………’ I moaned ‘why me,’ I thought ‘Wow so i get the 2 worst jobs biking and swimming dam.’ suddenly when the lunch bell rang we got escorted to the Netball court outside the new block and Mr Botha told us the order of events fortunately the year 7 trios were last so after the list of thy events we wandered to the pool…..

 

I sat down on the steel bench it had wooden bleachers to sit down on while I waited I chatted with Perry,Lewis and Davi,then finally it was our turn.I hobbled over to the edge of the pool and got into diving position 3…2…1 SNAP!!!! I dived into the pool.It was hard the pool was like a pinball machine and obviously I was the pinball but you had to dodge the human pinball whackers [other swimmers] I hit them once or twice I think.I got there, finally! so I hopped out the pool and got on my shoes and ran to my bike and zoomed into the OIS’s grassy field and I made the worst mistake of my life I forgot to drink any water before biking so I was perfectly fine until the 3rd lap because my mouth suddenly turned dry [insert paranormal music here please] a mouth drought in thy mouth had occurred and the teachers weren’t helping either they were yelling at me ‘change your gears!’ so I brought them down to 3 and 1 then they said nothing until the last lap they screamed ‘turn those gears up higher!’

‘Uhhhhhhhh now they tell me’ I thought.

I got there in the end though,I thought we had failed but  then I saw like 50 more kids

‘Phew,’ I thought then I saw Solomon shouting ‘LEVI OVER HERE!’

So I tagged him and finally I had done thy part!

 

I still had a drought in my mouth now I had to sit with sweaty people and wait.I found out later Solomon smashed the running and made us came 1st,yeah I wish.But at last we succeeded!I was still half dead and stuck in a clamour of voices and I still had a drought in my mouth.We came like 57th but at least I [we I mean] survived.

 

So that was my first OIS triathlon experience it was harder than expected but I still enjoyed it.
